Ride Shakedown

Ride Shakedown

March 12, 2010

RIDE Shakedown’s mission is to promote snowboarding, its athletes and its lifestyle amongst the general public.

What makes the RIDE Shakedown such a hit and a cut above the rest is its unparalleled competition format. The concept: a laidback, live-it-up event with minimal restrictions on the riders. Spectators are taken to the very heart of the action and treated to a thrill-a-minute show that’s eminently accessible. At the RIDE Shakedown, riders, both male and female, are required to master two different disciplines: the Big Air and the rail obstacle featuring various surface textures to be revealed only on the first day of competition. Competitors and fans alike look forward to the moment. While pros are the main attraction, amateurs are also in the game, as they valiantly battle it out in an attempt to make a name for themselves. Every winter, new talent is discovered!

2010 is a stellar year for the RIDE Shakedown, with not one, but two competitions being held: one in the United States (Seattle) and one in Canada (Saint-Sauveur). And in 2011, the event will already be celebrating its 10th anniversary!

Snowboarding is about having fun with friends and pushing yourself to go a little bit faster, and in turn, a little bit bigger. A huge thanks to Krush and his entire crew, the good people at Lib Tech, Cory and his Cobra Dogs and everyone else who help put on one of the best quarterpipe contests every single year.

Olympic Report

Men: Wednesday 02.17.10

Once again, Shaun White proved to be untouchable tonight in Vancouver, capturing his second Olympic gold medal in men's halfpipe. Fending off Finland's Peetu Piiroinen and teammate Scotty Lago, he gave the United States its third gold medal of the day. Sealing the deal on his first run in the Finals, White cracked a ridiculously lofty straight air to start things off, followed by a double cork, a switch double cork, and capped it off with a backside 900 earning him a 46.8. Last up for the 2nd run and with the gold in his pocket, White finished by blasting an atmosphere-kissing air, a Double Cork, another Double Cork, and then a Double McTwist for a near-flawless 48.4. Yeah.

Women: Thursday 02.18.10

After finishing the 2006 Olympics in Torino medal-less, Australia's Torah Bright bested Hannah Teter and Kelly Clark last night in Vancouver for a gold-medal finish. First up in the 2nd run, due to her last-place 5.9 first run, Bright set the bar high by coming in hot, cracking a backside tre, switch backside 720, a back 540, air to fakie and sealing it off with a 720. Congrats to Torah, Hannah, Kelly, and the rest of the Olympic 'pipe assassins...

North Face Masters of Snowboarding Results

After a weather day the clouds cleared enough for the top North Face Masters of Snowboarding qualifiers to rip down Crystal Mountain’s Silver King. Choosing from a plethora of 60-degree chutes, large cliffs and steep faces Crystal local Forrest Burki put together a fluid, technical run to take the first place prize – a samurai sword and $3500.
Blair Habenicht continued Crystal’s strong showing by placing second with a solid run down the fall line. Wolfcreek local Charlie Hoch took third.
Shannon Yates, based in Salt Lake City, charged a strong line with three clean airs to take first place for the women. She knew her run was good, but didn’t get her hopes too high.
